Replacing the Ferrari 308 GT4 and Ferrari 208 GT4 coupes, the Ferrari Mondial models were manufactured from 1980 to 1993. This mid engined V8 sports car was the last 2+2 road car manufactured by Ferrari. The name Mondial, in french, means global and reflects the conformance to the new global safety and emissions standards of 1980.

Replacing the Ferrari Mondial 3.2 in 1988, the Ferrari Mondial T showcased several substantial updates including a new air intake system, body colored front and rear bumpers, updated door handles, a removable subframe, and new engine.

With the new 3.4L V8 engine, the Mondial T was capable of producing 300 horsepower at 7,200 rpm and 238 foot pounds of torque at 4,200 rpm. With the increased power and performance, it was able to get from 0 to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds, which was nearly a second faster than its predecessor the Mondial 3.2.

When production was completed in 1993 there had been 1,875 cars produced, with the majority being of the cabriolet version. Since then, Ferrari has not created another mid engine 2+2 car, moving to a more classic front mounted engine design with the Ferrari 456 in 1992.
