Replacing the Ferrari 308 GT4 and Ferrari 208 GT4 coupes, the Ferrari Mondial models were manufactured from 1980 to 1993. This mid engined V8 sports car was the last 2+2 road car manufactured by Ferrari. The name Mondial, in french, means global and reflects the conformance to the new global safety and emissions standards of 1980.

Introduced in 1980, the Ferrari Mondial 8 debuted at the Geneva Auto Salon. The first of the Mondials produced by Ferrari, it drew some criticism due to the underwhelming performance.

The Ferrari Mondial 8 was powered by a mid mounted 3.0L V8 engine capable of producing a maximum of 214 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 179 foot pounds of torque at 4,600 rpm. It was able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 8.2 seconds.

Manufactured until 1982, there were a total of 703 cars produced, with only 147 imported into the United States. The Ferrari Mondial 8 was replaced in 1983 by the Ferrari Mondial QV.
